Countries that ban electronic cigarettes

Saudi Arabia: Strict ban on the sale, distribution, and advertising of e-cigarettes in pharmacies, importation prohibited. The sale of e-cigarettes is banned following a decision by the Health Ministers of the Gulf countries.

Argentina: Ban on selling, promoting, importing, and distributing e-cigarettes. A decree classifying the electronic cigarette as a tobacco product, using a vape is prohibited in enclosed public spaces.

Bahrain : Like all tobaccos, the e-cigarette is prohibited from sale, import, and distribution.

Brazil: Total ban on selling, importing, or distributing as well as advertising electronic cigarettes. Tobacco, for its part, is prohibited in transportation and public places.

Brunei Darussalam: Total ban on selling, importing, and distributing e-cigarettes.

Cambodia: Ban on selling, importing, and using vaping products.

United Arab Emirates : Prohibition of selling and possessing an e-cigarette.

United States : prohibited in some states

Gambia : Any vaping product, whether containing nicotine or not, is strictly prohibited. Selling, possessing, distributing, importing e-cigarettes is prohibited.

Iran : Sale, import, and manufacturing of e-cigarettes prohibited.

Mauritius: Health publicly prohibits the sale and distribution of products that are similar to tobacco or cigarettes.

Jordan: Total ban on selling, advertising, manufacturing, importing, and using e-cigarettes.

Kuwait: Total ban on selling, importing, and using e-cigarettes.

Lebanon: Ban on importing and selling any type of electronic cigarettes.

Nepal: Total ban on selling or possessing an electronic cigarette.

Nicaragua: Prohibition by law of selling, importing, or manufacturing products imitating tobacco products.

Oman: Total ban on selling, advertising, manufacturing, importing, and using e-cigarettes including electronic hookahs.

Uganda: Total ban on e-cigarettes throughout the territory.

Panama: Prohibition by decree of selling, advertising, manufacturing, importing, and using e-cigarettes.

Qatar: Strict prohibition on the sale, distribution, and advertising of e-cigarettes in pharmacies, ban on importation. The sale of e-cigarettes is prohibited following a decision by the health ministers of the Gulf countries.

Seychelles: The law on tobacco products prohibits the manufacture, importation, distribution, or sale of counterfeit tobacco products.

Singapore: prohibition on sale, distribution, and importation.

Suriname: Total ban on importing, distributing, and selling e-cigarettes.

Syria: Manufacturing, handling, selling, buying, and using e-cigarettes is prohibited by Circular No. 12/16 of November 29, 2009, from the Ministry of Local Administration.

Thailand: Electronic cigarettes are prohibited throughout the territory. A law bans their manufacture, sale, and import.

Turkey: A circular prohibits the sale and import of e-cigarettes, but other laws appear to be incompatible with this statement.

Turkmenistan: ban on selling and importing electronic cigarettes.

Uruguay: ban on selling and importing electronic cigarettes.

Countries that ban nicotine

Australia: The law considers nicotine to be a poison, it limits its use if it is not used for therapeutic purposes. However, electronic cigarettes that do not contain nicotine are considered legal consumer goods.

Japan: It is important, under penalty of a fine, to vape in areas reserved for smokers. A regulation allows the private import of e-cigarettes only for medical use, provided that it is a product for private use only and that the consumption quantity is less than one month.

Mexico: for all e-cigs or liquids containing nicotine, the national anti-tobacco law prohibits selling, distributing, promoting, or manufacturing a product that imitates a tobacco product.The ban is specific to e-cigarettes containing nicotine.

South Africa: E-cigarettes with nicotine are regulated by the "Medicines Control Council" as medicines. The court ruled in favor of manufacturers who challenged the application of this law to one of their products, and the decision applies to manufacturers who market e-cigarettes as therapeutic products.

Countries that ban e-cigarettes in public places

Austria: On Austrian territory, there are restrictions on the use of e-cigarettes in public places just like tobacco; wherever smoking is prohibited, e-cigarettes are also prohibited. Smoking in cars in the presence of a minor (under 18) is forbidden.

Azerbaijan: Considered a tobacco product, the e-cigarette is regulated like a cigarette, and its use is restricted in places open to the public.

Barbados: Since 2017 the law being the prohibition of smoking e-cigarettes, as for all tobacco products.

Bulgaria: Prohibition to sell to minors (- 18 years old). Online sales prohibited. Certain public places are also prohibited.

Colombia: Prohibition to sell, manufacture, market, as well as advertise.

Costa Rica: Prohibition of sale to minors (- 18 years old).Sale prohibited in vending machines, on the web, by phone, or any other sales method that does not allow the customer's age to be identified immediately. The use of nicotine e-liquid is prohibited in enclosed public spaces as well as in public transport.

Croatia: Sale is prohibited to minors (under 18 years old). Sale through vending machines is prohibited. The use of a vaping product in places open to the public is prohibited.

Cyprus: Prohibition on sale through a vending machine.The use of an electronic cigarette is regulated in public places, at work, and in transportation through signage. Sale to persons under eighteen is prohibited. Use is forbidden in private vehicles in the presence of a minor or a pregnant woman.

Denmark: Prohibition of vaping in certain public places, such as schools, daycares, and public transport, and at work.

Ecuador: Prohibition of using e-cigarettes in spaces open to the public and on public transport.Prohibition of vaping for minors under 18 years old.

Fiji: By decree, the law prohibits the sale to minors (under 18 years old) and the use of electronic cigarettes in certain public places and public transport.

Finland: Same as for traditional cigarettes, use is prohibited everywhere tobacco is prohibited, but also in vehicles carrying minors under 15 years old.

France: Prohibition of vaping in transport, at work, and in all places open to the public as well as in places where minors (<18 years) are present.

Georgia: Prohibition, as with tobacco, of using vaping products in public places and transport where smoking is prohibited. Use and sale prohibited to minors.

Israel: Sale prohibited to persons under 18 years old. Like tobacco, prohibited in public places.

Jamaica: Prohibition of the use of vaping products in public places and on public transport.

Laos: Use is prohibited where smoking is prohibited.

El Salvador: Like cigarettes, the regulation is the same for electronic cigarettes. Prohibition of vaping and smoking in public places.

Luxembourg: Prohibited in certain public places (as well as in the presence of children under 16) on public transport, as well as in private vehicles where there are children under 12 years old.

Maldives: prohibited for those under 18. It is banned where smoking is prohibited.

Malta: Vaping is prohibited in certain public places and all places where smoking is prohibited, such as schools, daycare centers, and public transport, as well as in private vehicles when a minor (under 16 years old) is present.

Moldova: prohibited for minors under 18 years old.As with tobacco products, the e-cigarette is prohibited in public places where smoking is forbidden, including in private transport where minors under 18 are present.

Norway: Sale prohibited to minors (-18). Prohibition of vaping in all public places, transport vehicles, restaurants, bars, and schools.

Philippines: The law prohibits the use of e-cigarettes in places open to the public and in public transport.

Poland: Online sales are prohibited. Sale to minors under 18 is also prohibited. The use of electronic cigarettes in certain public places and on public transport is prohibited.

Portugal: Online sales are prohibited. Sale to minors under 18 is also prohibited. The use of electronic cigarettes with nicotine is prohibited in certain public places and on public transport.

Korea: Electronic cigarettes are prohibited on public transport and in public places, except in designated smoking areas.

Slovenia: Electronic cigarettes are prohibited on public transport and in public places, but also in private vehicles in the presence of minors under 18 years old.

Sri Lanka: Smoking is prohibited in public spaces, but also in the street, restaurants, and bars. You risk arrest in case of violation.

Switzerland: Prohibition on selling electronic cigarettes containing nicotine. The law considers nicotine-free products as goods.

Tajikistan: Sale prohibited to minors (-18 years old). Products must be sold in their original packaging. It is forbidden to vape in public places and also where minors (-16 years old) are present.

Timor: Smoking is prohibited in certain public spaces, as with cigarettes.

Togo: Prohibition of sale to minors (under 18 years old), no advertising or promotion, smoking is prohibited in public spaces and transportation outside of designated areas. 45% tax on electronic cigarette products.

Ukraine: Smoking and vaping in places open to the public is prohibited except in designated areas.

Venezuela: Sale prohibited to minors, smoking is prohibited in public spaces or transportation.

Vietnam: Sale prohibited to minors, smoking ban in public spaces or on public transport, outside designated areas.

What is good to know about other countries

Germany: Prohibition for those under 18.

Canada: Prohibition on the sale to minors (under 18)

Chile: E-cigarettes with nicotine are classified as a medicine, but no regulation has been established to date.

Estonia: Sale of vaping products to minors (under 18).

Honduras: Prohibition on selling to those under 21.

Lithuania: E-commerce prohibited. Sale and use prohibited for minors.

New Zealand: vaping products may not be sold to minors (under 18 years old)

Netherlands: Sale prohibited to minors (under 18 years old) of electronic cigarettes or e-liquids with or without nicotine is prohibited. Age verification by the seller is mandatory.

Palau: Sale prohibited to minors (under 21 years old). Age verification is mandatory at points of sale.

Sweden: Sale prohibited to minors (under 18 years old).Mandatory verification for the purchase of an e-cigarette.
