OCB, French-style success

"OCB, crushed armored cardboard" boasted Billy Ze Kick in one of his songs. And who doesn't know this refrain? Before crossing French borders, the company was a family project in its native Brittany. But the quality of its products led it to grow rapidly. A success that still persists today. In 1822, the brand with three letters was born near Quimper, in a place called Ergué-Gaberic (Finistère). Nicolas Le Marié built a paper mill there, assisted by the Bolloré brothers: René Corentin and Jean-Guillaume Claude. For 6 generations, the magnitude of their work would be recognized at its true value. Thanks to his travels in Asia and South America, Jean René Corentin, who took over the leadership of the group, brought back his manufacturing secrets to launch an exceptional cigarette paper on the market. Gradually, the family acquired several mills. From 1917 onwards, the group grew increasingly due to high demand driven by the popularization of cigarettes. A year later, the family’s own brand finally emerged from its three letters. Since 1918, its rolling paper has undoubtedly been among the best in the world, which is also true of its cigarette tubes, filters, etc.

In the 1930s, 90% of the production was exported to the New World. But the war almost completely stopped the work of factories in France. To make up for this shortage, a factory opened its doors in North Carolina.

The 1980s marked a historic turning point in the brand's history: Vincent Bolloré bought his competitor JOB, located in Perpignan. Since 2006, the company has left the family to fully belong to one of its clients: Don Levin, CEO of Republic Technologies.

Its prestige did not fade as a result, quite the opposite. The diversity of its products still proves it with careful market monitoring. The company now offers an organic range (rolling papers, hemp filters...), then an ultra-thin rolling paper, unrefined and bleached: the Slim Virgin.
