Smokers, why roll unbleached?

The majority of rolling tobacco smokers buy OCB rolling papers. The iconic small black packet of papers is the most sought after. Fine, transparent, and ideal for rolling a cigarette: OCB has always been popular, year after year. However, the manufacturing and certain materials used in the accessories pollute the environment.

It is based on this observation that brands have decided to create more "eco-friendly" products for smokers. What are they and what do their products contain?

What are the natural substances in unbleached products?

The alternative to classic rolling paper is clear. This brown sheet, called "organic," unbleached, raw sheet or brown sheet, is not made from cellulose but from hemp from certified eco-responsible organic crops or from unbleached natural fibers. Rice, flax, and even hemp paper are now available under the brands OCB Eco Bio, Smoking Brown, Gizeh Pure, or Raw. Short or long papers can easily be found in all these brands. These products do not alter the taste of tobacco. The thing of smoking, of rolling unbleached, is still present, while also preserving the environment a little more.

The filter, for its part, is made with pure unbleached cellulose. It thus becomes a biodegradable filter that naturally decomposes in about 28 days in the case of the OCB Eco Bio Slim filter. Banko Natural filters or Gizeh Pure XL Slim filters are also biodegradable and made using the same manufacturing method.

The packaging of these products is also more environmentally friendly. Some brands, like Gizeh Pure, highlight packaging made with less plastic, recycled materials, and printed with vegetable-based ink. All of these cigarette filter or rolling paper packages are therefore recyclable.

Brands of more natural products for smokers

Smoking “organic”, rolling unbleached, a concept that some may find a little overrated. However, anyone can change their way of consuming cigarettes starting today. This is not about organic tobacco, although such products currently exist on the market, but rather about the products that accompany the tobacco. Filters and papers are now more environmentally friendly.

OCB has launched its collection of organic hemp papers, Paper Virgin brown papers and eco organic filters. The same goes for the ranges Smoking Brown, Gizeh Pure, Cones Unbleached, and Raw.These new products are made from raw materials often derived from organic farming. This alternative is beneficial for both the consumer and the environment.

Focus on the Gizeh Pure range

A more ecological range that consists of Slim Pure rolling papers and Regular Pure rolling papers. There are also various biodegradable Pure filters available in sachet form more « eco friendly », them too.

The Gizeh Pure XL Slim filters are made from a more natural composition. The filters are made from unbleached cellulose (therefore chlorine-free) and are biodegradable. The packaging of Gizeh Pure filters is also more ecological. They are fully recyclable, contain less than 50% plastic compared to standard filter packaging. Furthermore, the Gizeh Pure XL filter offers the possibility to retain more nicotine and save tobacco, while maintaining a balanced taste.

Gizeh Pure leaves are made from hemp from organic farming. This Gizeh Pure paper is unbleached, chlorine-free, and has an adhesive made of natural gum arabic.

What other solutions are offered?

Smoking more naturally also means not polluting the soil. The goals for all these brands are to reduce environmental impact and to give consumers the possibility to be eco-responsible. Throwing a regular cigarette on the ground is another way to damage the environment. When they are thrown into nature, these cigarette butts take between 4 and 12 years to disappear from the landscape. They therefore pollute nature, wildlife, plants, and water.

This issue has therefore led brands to offer more environmentally friendly filters and papers. However, throwing your cigarette into nature remains an uncivilized act. More recently, the city of Paris has introduced a €68 fine to combat the disposal of cigarette butts on public streets. For this purpose, pocket ashtrays are ideal. Small in size, they can be carried anywhere, in a pocket or a handbag.

All these presented items therefore guide you towards a more ecological and environmentally friendly approach.

And you? Are you ready to roll a cigarette in a more 'green' way, by rolling it unbleached?
