Maintenance of your Zippo Blu lighter is very important to be able to preserve the various technical characteristics and performance of your Zippo Blu lighter. Thus, thanks to cleaning and maintaining it, you will be able to continue using it properly and enjoy all its performance!

The different steps to maintain your Zippo Blu lighter

1 - How should I light my ZIPPO BLU?

The ignition of the ZIPPO BLU lighter is a little different from that of the traditional ZIPPO lighter. Simply perform the following steps.

• Press firmly with your thumb on the flint wheel and hold it pressed for about 1 second (this allows the gas to escape in advance so that the spark can ignite the flame)
• Turn the flint wheel
• With your thumb, turn the wheel down and at the same time press the gas release button – a blue flame appears.

WARNING: The flame can be invisible in strong light, but it is very hot! To extinguish the flame, simply release the gas release button.

2 - What gas should be used for a ZIPPO BLU?

We recommend using exclusively original ZIPPO Premium isobutane. If this is not available, and you need to use another, make sure to use Premium butane gas. If gas other than Premium butane gas is used, the combustion performance may be degraded.and the lighter may be damaged. In this specific case, the lighter loses its warranty.

3 – How do I install a new flint in my ZIPPO BLU lighter?

• Do not try to remove the insert
• Remove the ignition unit (flint wheel) by pulling straight up.
• Remove the ignition unit and take out the screw with a coin or a screwdriver.
• Remove the flint.
• Insert a new flint into the small tube.
• For optimal results, please use only original ZIPPO flints.
• Reinsert the screw.
• Tighten the screw by locking it.
• Put the ignition unit back into the lighter, the small groove must be turned towards the burner. Press the ignition unit down firmly.

4 – What is an air inclusion?

An air pocket occurs when air enters the sealed gas tank. This can, for example, happen if the lighter is not turned upside down during refilling. To remove an air pocket:

• Turn the lighter over
• Let the air escape from the tank by carefully pressing down on the filling valve with a pointed object.
• Be very careful when doing this.
• Keep the lighter away from your face.
• Perform this operation only in a well-ventilated area and away from any ignition source or flames.
• Shake the lighter or turn it in all directions and, if necessary, release the air once more.
• Then refill the lighter again.

5 – My ignition unit is mobile. Is this normal?

The ignition unit has been designed to move up and down. This movement is normal.

6 – Are there codes indicating the date on the bottom of the ZIPPO BLU lighter?

Yes! On the bottom of the lighter, there are the same codes indicating the date as on traditional ZIPPO lighters.

7 – Why can't I remove the insert from my ZIPPO BLU lighter?

The insert is designed so that it can only be removed by authorized ZIPPO repair personnel. A seal is placed on the retaining screw, and aside from the ignition unit, there are no other parts that need to be maintained by the user. Removing the insert will void the warranty.

8 – How often should I replace the flint in my ZIPPO BLU lighter?

The flint should be replaced when it no longer produces a spark. Normally, you can refill the tank several times before needing to replace the flint.

9 – How often should I refill my ZIPPO BLU lighter?

The refilling frequency, of course, depends a lot on usage. One refill should be enough for about 200 to 300 ignitions.

10 – What lights my ZIPPO BLU lighter?

A patented friction wheel technology that was specially developed for this lighter. It causes a rough ignition wheel to rub on an original ZIPPO flint to produce a reliable ignition spark.

11 – I have filled my ZIPPO BLU lighter, but it does not work. What should I do?

• Make sure there is enough gas in the tank.
• Make sure there is no air trapped.
• Make sure there is a flint in the ignition unit.
• Make sure the ignition unit is properly in place.
• Make sure the screw at the inner end of the ignition unit is tightened.
• Follow the user manual.

12 – How should I fill my ZIPPO BLU lighter?

• Do not try to remove the insert.
• Turn the lighter over.
• Look for the filling valve at the bottom of the lighter.
• Hold the lighter upside down like this and also the gas bottle with the valve facing down, and insert the bottle valve into the lighter's filling valve.
• Press the gas bottle 2–3 times with strong continuous pressure on the filling valve. Check the filling level at the side viewing window.
• Wait at least 2 minutes after filling before using the lighter again.

13 – Can I remove the insert from my ZIPPO BLU lighter like with a traditional ZIPPO lighter?

NO! The insert can only be changed in our official repair centers.
WARNING: A seal is placed on the retaining screw. If this seal is removed or damaged, it voids our famous warranty.

14 – Do I need to fill my ZIPPO BLU lighter with gas when using it for the first time?

Yes! The ZIPPO BLU lighter is delivered unfilled like our traditional ZIPPO lighter.
IMPORTANT: Considering that at the time of delivery, there is emptiness in the gas tank, it is important not to operate the gas valve before the first filling of the tank. Otherwise, this can cause air inclusions that hinder the proper functioning of your lighter.

15 – My ZIPPO BLU lighter does not stay lit when I do not hold down the gas release button. Is this normal?

Yes, that is perfectly normal. The ZIPPO BLU lighter is designed to burn only as long as the gas release (black) button is pressed.

16 – What is the difference between my ZIPPO BLU lighter and my traditional ZIPPO lighter?

A glance at the new ZIPPO BLU lighter and you can see that it looks like no other. Its shape is cool, exciting, the separation line of the case in a sinusoidal shape, and the 'l' patternon the chimney are your reference points that it is not your father's ZIPPO lighter. The particular characteristics of your gas ZIPPO lighter include, among others, the smooth, comfortable shape, the patented ignition wheel technology, and its very hot blue flame.

17 – How can I empty my ZIPPO BLU lighter?

Let the air escape from the tank by carefully pressing down on the filling valve at the bottom of the lighter with a pointed object. Be very careful when doing this so as not to damage the valve.
IMPORTANT: Only perform this operation in a well-ventilated area and away from any ignition source or open flame.

18 – How do I send my ZIPPO BLU lighter for repair?

Please do not attempt to repair it yourself, as this could cause the lighter to be even more severely damaged. Do not try to remove the insert. There are no user-serviceable parts inside the insert. Remove the lighter and empty the gas as described in the instruction manual included with the product. Safely pack the ZIPPO BLU lighter preferably in a slightly larger box or in a padded envelope (for larger packages, the risk that the shipment may get lost in transit or reachthe false destination is smaller) Preferably send your package insured by a trackable postal service (for example by registered mail or a parcel service) with postage paid to:
