Discover the museum of the pipe and the diamond

Located in Saint-Claude, the museum of the pipe and the diamond speaks to a taste for finely made things. This unusual place was set up by the guild of master pipe makers of Saint-Claude and by the association of the Diamond Cutters of the Haut-Jura. Step into a world of its own.

Two spaces in a single museum

This private museum offers a display that has no equivalent anywhere else. It appeals to pipe enthusiasts, but also to admirers of diamonds. It therefore makes an ideal outing for a couple, with something for everyone. Two separate sections are on offer.

On the pipe side, you will find old machines and tools once used by the master pipe makers. A collection of Haut-Jura pipes is also displayed, alongside models from around the world. And that is not all: the museum gives access to the chapter room where, twice a year, new members of the guild are inducted.

In the diamond space, automata bring back to life the tools once used to search for and cut diamonds. An exhibition of rough stones is open to visitors. There is also a collection from the Meilleurs Ouvriers de France, the country's master craftsmen, along with reproductions of a few famous diamonds and of the English crown jewels. Finally, a documentary explains cutting techniques and diamonds in general.

An unguided visit of 60 minutes

The museum is freely accessible once the entrance fee has been paid: 6 euros for adults, 3.50 euros for children and 5 euros for disabled visitors, groups and students. The route takes about an hour and the reception staff are on hand to answer any questions.

A mystery game is organised for young visitors aged 7 to 13. The museum is open in the afternoons from Monday to Saturday during the low season, and all day every day during the high season.
