OCB Rice: rolling paper made from Camargue rice
Published on
OCB is extending its catalogue with OCB Rice, a new range of rolling papers built around a raw material uncommon in this aisle: rice. More precisely, these leaves are made from genuine rice fibres grown in the Camargue delta, in the south of France.
With this new line, the French brand continues to develop its ranges of papers made from plant fibres, alongside its hemp, bamboo and unbleached-paper lines in particular.
An ultra-thin paper made with genuine rice fibres
The main distinguishing feature of OCB Rice lies in its composition. Unlike a standard rolling paper, the range uses fibres from rice grown in the Camargue.
OCB states that the paper is made by French artisans and is set apart by an ultra-thin, unbleached design. It thus keeps the natural shade of the fibres used, without a treatment meant to turn it white.
As with several other ranges from the brand, the OCB Rice leaves are also watermarked. This process contributes to an even burn of the paper.
A natural acacia gum
For the gum strip, OCB keeps to one of the characteristic elements of its papers: natural acacia gum.
According to the manufacturer, the combination of the ultra-thin paper, the watermark and this gum is designed to ensure a slow, even burn. The range is also announced as vegan and GMO-free.
Which formats are available for OCB Rice?
The OCB Rice range comes in several formats, from short leaves to Slim versions, with or without tips.
- OCB Rice Regular: a short format of 99 x 35 mm, presented as a double-flap booklet with 100 leaves per booklet;
- OCB Rice 1 1/4: leaves of 44 x 77 mm, with 50 leaves per booklet;
- OCB Rice 1 1/4 + Tips: a 44 x 77 mm format supplied with cardboard filters;
- OCB Rice Slim: long leaves of 44 x 109 mm, with 32 leaves per booklet;
- OCB Rice Slim + Tips: a 44 x 109 mm format supplied with cardboard filters.
OCB continues to develop its unbleached papers
OCB Rice adds to a catalogue in which papers made from plant fibres now hold an important place. The brand already offers products using organic hemp, bamboo, flax or wood fibres, among others.
The manufacturer also states that it does not use chlorine for its unbleached papers. It says it selects fibres from production managed in a sustainable way and uses, for all of its papers, an acacia gum of natural origin.
Rice, a new point of difference in rolling papers
In a market where manufacturers now vary papers by thinness, by raw material or by degree of processing, OCB Rice adds one further product to the OCB range.
What sets it apart is still the use of genuine rice fibres from the Camargue. Combined with an unbleached, ultra-thin paper, they allow OCB to offer an identifiable product beside the established Premium, Virgin, Bamboo and Chanvre Bio ranges.
With OCB Rice, the French manufacturer thus adds a new plant material to its catalogue, while keeping several characteristics now familiar in its papers: thinness, a watermark, natural acacia gum and a slow burn.
