Myon, the brand of high-performance lighters

If you are not yet familiar with the well-known Myon lighters, this article introduces them. A French brand through and through, it has made its name in the world of cigars and is widely used by smokers.

How the brand came about

In 1919, Marcel Quercia and his partners Georges Marguet and Jérémy Romain founded a company named after their initials: MQR. They set up in Damprichard, in the Doubs. Their core business was making lighters, and more precisely products similar to those of Flamidor, which they sold under the Myon name.

Success came quickly for their smoking accessories. The company employed more than a hundred people and its lighters were produced in large numbers. They were sold to the general public in tobacconists, but were aimed at the upper end of the market. It was in their workshops, during the 1960s, that the famous Flaminaire “pebble” lighter was created.

A success story that has lasted

Three models in particular found their public. One was the Myon 201, a petrol lighter. Its body was in chrome-plated brass and its finish was either plain or decorated with a map of Indochina, in a silvered case with an Asian look. The collection came in several decorative versions, as well as with leather sleeves.

The Myon Autolyux was another popular model, with its silver cases and leather sleeves. Although very plain in chrome-plated brass, it was functional and did exactly what its owners expected of it.

Lastly, much of Myon’s success is down to the Page model. It looks very much like the lighters of luxury brands such as the Dupont Ligne 1 or the Dunhill Rollagas, but at a far more affordable price. Some owners are proud to say that after 40 years of use, their Page has never leaked once.

The brand continues to produce lighters that are just as effective and just as widely bought, particularly by cigar smokers. Its flagship product is the four-flame storm lighter, in yellow or red, which is built to work in the most extreme conditions.
