When technology meets the cigar

The Plasencia manufactory has teamed up with Legacy Secure to fit an electronic chip into the band of each of its cigars. The aim? To tell you about the cigar you are holding. Here is how it works.

Information within smartphone reach

Whether you are new to cigars or well versed in them, the Plasencia brand is now offering a further step. This 2.0 manufactory shows that technology can work alongside long-standing craft knowledge.

Thanks to the electronic chip in the band of its cigars, you have access to a good deal of information about the history of the brand, the cigar you have just scanned and a few high-definition photographs.

Find out more about your cigars

More than general knowledge, the chip also holds a wealth of information about the craft of the cigar and the Plasencia manufactory. It is a resource that retailers can draw on, but consumers too.

How does it work? It is very simple: just hold the Plasencia cigar of your choice close to your smartphone. A web page opens automatically, with no app to download. You then have access to all the relevant information: blend, tasting notes and so on. You also step inside the house of Plasencia and its more than 150 years of history.

Plasencia in search of renewal

The manufactory has never stopped reinventing itself since it began. It has looked for new combinations and new methods to bring out the flavours of its cigars. A genuine wish to innovate has always been apparent. It is therefore only natural that, under the influence of technology, Plasencia should move into this field as well.

In the near future, consumers will also be able to rate the cigar live during a tasting. They will even be able to communicate with the manufactory. For the time being, the system is only being tested on the Alma Fuerte Sixto Hexagon Colorado Claro cigars and box.
