The cigar case: carrying cigars safely

The name says it all. The cigar case is a rigid accessory used to carry cigars over a fairly short period without damaging them. If you are away for a day or two and want to take a cigar with you, a case will keep it in good condition. Small and light, cases slip into a coat or jacket pocket, or into a bag.

Cigar cases may hold one, two or more cigars. The most widespread are the two-cigar models, which is the format most smokers settle on. They can be made of leather, metal or plastic depending on the model. Note that they do not replace a humidor: they are mainly there to protect your cigars during a short trip.

How to choose a cigar case

The first criterion is simply the number of compartments needed. A two-cigar case is enough most of the time, but you may only need a single case, or a larger one holding 3 or 4 cigars.

The second criterion has more to do with looks. Cigar cases come in a range of colours, patterns and textures, and one model may appeal more than another depending on your taste. Some smokers prefer restrained designs, others go for something more eye-catching.

The third and last criterion is price. Here too the range is very wide. Depending on the brand, the material or sometimes the particular model, the amount can be ten times higher from one case to the next.
