Did you know that CBD is also recommended for our four-legged friends? The effects that its supporters attribute to cannabinoids in the natural system of pets are said to be remarkable, particularly for animals under stress or suffering from osteoarthritis. Here is a closer look.

CBD for your dog or your cat

For those who are unfamiliar with it, CBD is a molecule derived from cannabis or hemp. It is not psychoactive at all, which means it has no habit-forming effect on the body. It is, on the other hand, credited with calming, stimulating the appetite, helping people sleep and easing pain. CBD is said to have shown its effectiveness against many conditions in humans, but also in our furry companions. Now sold entirely legally and in formats intended specifically for pets, CBD oil is presented by those who market it as highly effective.

Like humans, dogs and cats have an endocannabinoid system, which is why they are receptive to CBD. The glands of the central nervous system, the brain, the peripheral organs and the immune cells are mainly involved. The dosage and the method of administration differ from those used for humans, however. Animals must take it exclusively with their food, or receive a mixture of CBD oil and salmon oil directly in the mouth.

When is CBD given to pets?

If your dog or your cat lives in a permanent state of stress, or even anxiety, CBD is said to help the animal relax. If you notice that your furry friend tends to scratch regularly for no reason, to pull out its fur or even to injure itself, CBD oil is likewise presented as a useful option.

In the same way, if your dog or your cat suffers from osteoarthritis, CBD is said to ease the pain at a dose of 2 mg/kg. Epileptic animals are also reported to see their seizures reduced by up to 89% when taking CBD, since it acts directly on the nervous system. Finally, for infections, its supporters go so far as to claim that CBD is more powerful than any antibiotic against common ones.
