What is H4CBD?

While CBD was still unfamiliar to most people in France only a few months ago, a brand-new product has now appeared. H4CBD belongs to the CBD family, but with a few differences all the same. Here is a look at this new molecule and the attention it is attracting.

H4CBD: what is it?

The existence of H4CBD has been known since the last century. Long left on the sidelines, it is the legalisation of CBD that has brought H4CBD back to the fore. Its popularity first took off in the United States, before spreading to Europe.

While CBD is natural, H4CBD is semi-synthetic. It is a cannabinoid created in the laboratory from CBD. For budding chemists, the molecule is obtained from four hydrogen atoms and one molecule of CBD. Hence its name and its status as a half-natural, half-synthetic product. H4CBD is presented as an alternative to CBD, since it is used in the same ways: in its classic form as flower, and as resin, oils and liquid. Users, however, describe stronger effects than those obtained with CBD.

What are the effects of H4CBD?

No study is currently able to answer that question. Only customer feedback provides any information. Taking those reviews together, several effects are mentioned by users, namely:

• A relaxing effect,
• A calming effect against stress and anxiety,
• Help in finding restorative sleep,
• Help in regulating the circadian rhythm,
• An effect described as stronger than that of CBD,
• Anti-inflammatory and pain-relieving properties

Some consumers also report side effects, however, such as mild nausea, dizziness and bouts of drowsiness. As with any use of cannabinoids and synthesised substances, it is important to remain cautious with H4CBD. Ideally, the opinion of a healthcare professional remains essential, particularly for people who already have specific medical conditions.

What about the law on H4CBD?

As with most new products, the legal framework around H4CBD is still fairly unclear. Given this absence of legislation, and since H4CBD is derived from CBD, which is itself legal, it may be assumed that its use is legal in France as long as the THC content does not exceed 0.02%. That is not the case for HHC and its various derivatives, which have been banned in France since June 2023.
