The pipes of Luigi Viprati

Luigi Viprati made his first pipe for his own pleasure in 1972, at the age of 19.

He then worked for several years alongside Italian master pipe makers, before founding the Luigi Viprati brand in 1984.

Now regarded as one of the leading pipe makers in the world, Luigi Viprati chooses his Italian briar blocks himself, from Liguria to be precise, for the making of his pipes. He then dries all his carefully selected blocks in his workshop in Brescia, Italy.

As an independent pipe maker, he decided to show his models at various international shows, which brought him immediate success.

What sets Luigi Viprati apart from other pipe makers above all is his work with silver, which he combines with briar to obtain strikingly beautiful models. The Dali 2012 Sandblast pipe, a tribute to the eccentric painter and available on our site, is a fine example of this briar and silver pairing.

All of Viprati’s finest work is presented under the “Collection” series, and his success has led him to produce between 1000 and 2000 pipes a year.
