Savinelli pipes in focus

Every serious pipe enthusiast inevitably knows the Italian brand Savinelli. With its long-standing expertise and its finely worked models, it stands as one of the leading names in the world.

A history that endures

In 1876 the first Savinelli shop opened in Milan, Italy, selling articles for smokers. Faced with its own success, the house decided to produce pipes bearing the name of the shop. From the post-war years onwards, the expertise of Italian master pipe makers crossed borders and gained international recognition.

It must be said that the materials used are of high quality and that the handwork of the pipe makers is meticulous. Over all these years the Savinelli house has never stopped using traditional methods to make its pipes, which today makes it a brand much sought after by connoisseurs and collectors.

A wide range of products

Beyond the craftsmanship, it is worth noting that Savinelli has created more than 90 different pipe shapes. Every smoker can therefore find a preferred bowl on aesthetic as well as practical grounds. Canadian, Brandy Liverpool, Lovat, Egg and so on: each pipe made by Savinelli carries a name, but every shape is also identified by a number. These do not run from 1 to 100 but from 101 to 920. Some are even followed by the letters KS, an acronym for "King Size", meaning a large model.

Let us turn to the models themselves. There is a very large number of those as well. Caramella, Punto Oro and Miel are among the ranges described as basic. Others are made by hand: Creativity, Artisans and Autograph. And every year since 1986 a pipe of the year has been released, named Collection.

The models come in several finishes and always in 6 or 9 mm. The idea, as you will have gathered, is to suit the wishes and choices of every pipe smoker. What about you? Which is your favourite Savinelli pipe?
