Honduras Cigar Festival 2027: Honduran cigars prepare their gathering

Honduras intends to strengthen its place among the producers of premium cigars. In January 2027, the country is due to host a new festival devoted to its tobacco and cigar industry, with the aim of bringing together producers, professionals and international enthusiasts.

This forthcoming Honduras Cigar Festival is expected to take participants from Tegucigalpa through to Danlí, one of the country’s main tobacco-growing regions. Plantations, factories, meetings with people in the trade and tastings are expected to sit at the heart of the event.

A new cigar festival planned for January 2027

The project was announced after a meeting held in August 2026 between Honduran president Nasry Asfura and representatives of the Consejo de Artesanos del Tabaco de Honduras (CATAH).

Early information points to an event spread over several days at the end of January 2027. The period from 22 to 25 January is currently mentioned by several sources, even though the final calendar still has to be confirmed by the organisers.

A gala evening is notably announced in Tegucigalpa around 24 January. The festival is then expected to give a central place to the Danlí region, known for its role in tobacco growing and the making of Honduran cigars.

Tegucigalpa and Danlí at the heart of the event

Choosing these two destinations would allow visitors to see two sides of the Honduran industry.

The capital Tegucigalpa could host institutional events and some professional meetings, while Danlí, in the department of El Paraíso, would offer a more direct immersion in the stages of production.

This region is home to many plantations and factories. For observers of the trade, a visit there helps to understand all the steps that precede a cigar’s arrival in a cellar or a humidor: growing the plants, harvesting the leaves, curing, fermentation, selecting the tobaccos, then rolling.

What programme for the Honduras Cigar Festival?

At this stage, the full programme has not yet been made public. Several activities typical of the major international cigar festivals are nonetheless under consideration.

• Visits to tobacco plantations;
• tours of cigar factories;
• meetings with growers and manufacturers;
• tastings of Honduran cigars;
• professional events around the trade;
• a gala evening or dinner in Tegucigalpa.

Registration arrangements, prices and the final list of participating companies have yet to be announced. The programme should therefore become clearer as January 2027 approaches.

An established country in the premium cigar industry

Creating such an event appears logical given Honduras’s importance in the international cigar industry.

The country has a long tradition of tobacco growing and hosts manufacturers well known to professionals. The soils and climatic conditions of certain areas, notably around Danlí and the Jamastrán valley, produce tobaccos with distinct aromatic profiles, used by makers of premium cigars.

Honduras thus has a firmly established premium cigar industry, but no longer hosted an annual international event comparable to those organised by some of its neighbours — such as the Festival del Habano in Cuba.

A precedent with Humo Jaguar in 2011

Presenting the 2027 event as the very first festival in Honduras’s history nonetheless calls for a nuance.

In 2011, several major players in the sector had already taken part in a gathering named Humo Jaguar. The initiative had not, however, managed to establish itself permanently on the international calendar.

The 2027 project therefore stands out mainly through its ambition: to create a fixture that can become recurrent and represent the Honduran industry more widely as a whole.

A calendar planned in connection with Nicaragua

The chosen period could also favour the arrival of international buyers and professionals. The Honduran festival is due to take place just before Puro Sabor, the gathering devoted to the Nicaraguan cigar.

Visitors coming from Europe, North America or other regions could thus combine both producer countries in a single trip to Central America.

After Tegucigalpa and Danlí, some participants could then continue on to Nicaragua and in particular Estelí, another hub of premium cigar manufacturing.

Honduras wants to showcase its craft more clearly

Beyond the event itself, the forthcoming festival is a promotional tool for the whole Honduran trade.

The aim is as much to present the cigars produced in the country as the work of growers, manufacturers, rollers and other professionals involved in making them.

For Honduras, the stakes are also economic. The tobacco industry contributes to activity and employment in several producing regions, particularly in the department of El Paraíso.

A new fixture to watch

It will still take time before the final programme, the participating brands and the booking arrangements for the Honduras Cigar Festival 2027 are known.

But the announcement is already news for the world of premium cigars. If the event manages to establish itself lastingly, Honduras could join Cuba, the Dominican Republic and Nicaragua among the countries offering a regular international gathering around the cigar.
