The history of Nording Pipe

In the 1950s the Dane Erik Nording began making pipes for his own satisfaction. He went on to make it his trade and to build a family business. A blacksmith and engineer, he had a keen interest in pipes. A smoker himself, and an admirer of the work of pipe makers, he set up on his own. He called on many well-known carvers, several of whom began their careers alongside Erik Nording.

Now recognised as an outstanding master pipe maker, he still produces fine, high-quality pieces. His son Knud Nording handles worldwide marketing and sales. Today Victor, Knud’s son and a member of the third generation, also manages sales and the business in general alongside his father and his mother Margarita.

Exceptional pipes and accessories

From the 1970s onwards, the success of Nording pipes spread around the world. With organic, one-off stem shapes, sales simply took off. Pipe enthusiasts are especially fond of them. It was the Freehand series that made the brand known to smokers across the globe.

Nording pipes are remarkable both aesthetically, as with the Freehand series or the Compas, and in practical terms. Erik Nording still holds the record for the largest pipe in the world, which measures 2 m and weighs 58 kg. Rather more practical, the Nording Giants series is aimed at those who like large models.
