The most expensive lighter in the world is not a Zippo

A few years ago the most expensive lighter in the world was the Dunhill Apogée d'Or, the first butane gas lighter, made in a run of only 50 pieces. Each one sold for 13,000 dollars. It was then overtaken by the Louis XIII Fleur de Parme by S. T. Dupont, which was sold to Steven Hung, a Hong Kong billionaire with a passion for history, for the sum of 500,000 euros.

The second lighter was made from jadeite and silver stones. It is in fact a lighter and ashtray pair of fairly extravagant dimensions. The set sold for 254,000 dollars. Rounding off the top three most expensive lighters in the world is the famous Imperial lighter by Fabergé. It can also be used as a pocket lighter, and costs no less than 136,000 dollars.

Which are the most expensive Zippo lighters?

Within the Zippo family, the most expensive model is the exceptional windproof lighter marking the 75th anniversary of the brand. Made in 2007, it has fairly sober lines but carries the number 75 inlaid with a yellow flame on its front face. This lighter has the particularity of lighting in any weather, shielding the flame from air and wind, hence its name. It sold for 37,000 euros.

In second place comes the famous Zippo 1933. With no ornament and no precious metal, it owes its standing and its ranking as the 10th most expensive lighter in the world to its sentimental value. Fans of the brand know that it was the very first Zippo lighter ever made. It sold for 18,000 dollars to a collector who remained anonymous.
