It was from an ingenious idea referring to the French Revolution that the founders of the brand Les Fines Lames carved out a place for themselves in the closed world of the cigar. The guillotine may be the symbol of that event in our history books, but it was also the starting point of a remarkable success story.

The year 2015 marked a new departure. It took another 6 years, however, for Les Fines Lames to become known worldwide, and with a single product. It was with a cigar-cutting knife that the company won over the market. In 2015, the founder Pierre Jourdan was given a cigar knife called “L’original”. A cigar smoker himself, he was carrying a whole set of accessories that was beginning to take up a great deal of room. That is how he came to create a two-in-one tool rooted in a French tradition.

He then took part in numerous cigar events to promote his product and even sponsored the cigar smoking world championship, which allowed him to approach the main players in the field.

After the field, Les Fines Lames moves onto social media

Since social media are an essential lever for a young company, Pierre Jourdan set about building a solid brand image and multiplied partnerships with well-known names in tobacco, spirits, watchmaking and luxury goods.

Three years after the launch of the brand, Pierre Jourdan joined forces with Pablo Rodet to offer the only premium cutter that is 100% made in France at a modest price. That is how “le Petit” came about, a cutter largely inspired by the well-known “L’original”, small enough for a pocket and made in the tradition of French knife makers.

Its introduction to the market was helped by a crowdfunding campaign. “Le Petit” went on sale in September 2019 and sold in very large numbers.

From small brand to market leader

Made in France, sharply designed, useful, good-looking and drawing heavily on heritage, the cigar knife from Les Fines Lames has become a standard item, to the point that the brand is now the leader in cigar accessories. It has since widened its catalogue with 4 different accessory lines.
