E-joint, a new e-cigarette reaches the market

Given the considerable success of the e-cigarette, and the number of people who are cutting down on or looking to stop their tobacco use, it was hardly surprising that the market would keep moving. Enter the E-joint, which works on the same principle as the electronic cigarette, with one difference: the device is designed for cannabis.

The E-joint, a Dutch project

The Dutch company E-Njoint presented the project a few days ago and, while it is still only a prototype, it should soon be possible to use cannabis in liquid or even leaf form directly from an electronic cigarette. The design remains very close to the electronic cigarettes we have already seen, with a few details that leave no doubt as to what it is: a cannabis leaf at the tip, a few green lines and the particular shape of the object. The company’s origins are no accident, since the Netherlands is known for its tolerant approach to soft drugs. Could the E-joint then be permitted in France? That looks unlikely, and its use would be restricted, since French law provides for a prison sentence of up to one year and a fine of some 3,000 euros for cannabis use.

In the Netherlands, the brand behind the E-Njoint also plans to work with a cannabis supplier specialising in medical use. The company says it wants to take its idea into the healthcare field for patients who use cannabis on prescription, an approach that could be of interest in countries where cannabis may be prescribed.

It is worth watching what follows from the success of the e-cigarette, and seeing how the technology can inspire other ideas and give rise to developments such as this one.
