ACME STUDIOS: its history and its products

Founded in 1985 in Los Angeles by Adrian Olabuenaga and his wife, Acme Studios Inc began with a fine collection of jewellery, produced in unlimited series and created by the well-known designer Peter Shire.

Many of those pieces are still held today in museums around the world, such as the Brooklyn Museum of Art, the Groninger Museum in the Netherlands and many others. Shortly afterwards, a new jewellery collection of about a hundred pieces was created by 14 designers from all over the world. The collection was first shown in New York at the Cooper Hewitt Design Museum in 1986, before travelling to Italy.

Several collections followed, among them “Artists for ACME” and the “ACME Collection”, made with a number of designers and intended to earn the brand the status of “new” in the design industry.
In 1988, ACME moved to Hawaii and decided to develop other products such as personal accessories (business card holders, glasses cases and so on), watches and leather goods.

The company continued its work with leading designers at the forefront of the design industry.
Shortly afterwards, ACME broke new ground by introducing printing on writing instruments, which earned it an international reputation and started a fresh revolution.

In 2009, ACME was nominated for a national design award in the business achievement category and released its first green product: the 100% biodegradable Ecopen.

That same year, a shop was due to open in Las Vegas, “Paradise Pens”, along with the launch of a new limited-edition pen to mark the 40th anniversary of the Moon landing. In 2010, ACME also celebrated its 25th anniversary and its products were available in 63 countries.
