What is a pipe tamper?

It is simply a small accessory used to press the tobacco into the bowl of the pipe and to tamp it down. As a two-in-one tool, it also serves to clean the pipe and to remove ash that has sometimes become caked on. It can also clear any blockage in the shank, since the tool has a fine point that slips neatly into the airway.
