Tip and advice regarding replacing the flint for Zippo
How to change the flint of a Zippo? Here is an advisory article that will allow you to easily change the flint of your Zippo lighter in just a few minutes. To change the flint of your Zippo lighter, we strongly recommend using a flint from the Zippo brand. Note that the flint of the Zippo lighter wears down each time you light your lighter. In contact with the wheel, it is the flint that creates the spark that will ignite the Zippo wick. It should be changed when it is no longer thick enough.
All the steps to replace the flint for a Zippo
Remove the insert* from its case. Under the insert, you will find the felt pad as well as a brass screw.
Note: on some models of Zippo, there is a small hole in the felt which is used to place a replacement flint. Other people will prefer to keep a replacement flint between the felt pad and the cotton inside the insert.
Unscrew the screw using a screwdriver or the lid of your Zippo. Be careful to hold the screw firmly while unscrewing it, as it holds a spring. You will notice that at the end of the spring there is a tip that allows you to push the flint against the wheel to create the spark. (This is not a replacement flint). Sometimes a small piece of the used flint gets stuck in the wheel. Don't forget to eject it by making a few movements with the wheel.
Get a Zippo flint and insert it inside the tube, then screw the cap back on without forcing it.
Replace the insert in the case, making sure to put it in the correct direction: the cam* should be on the side of the lid.
All that remains is to refill with lighter fluid and light your Zippo. Note: it is sometimes difficult to turn the wheel during the first few ignitions. Apply a little pressure to slightly wear the flint, and ignition will be easier.
*Insert: removable inner body of the Zippo containing the entire mechanism of the Zippo. *Zippo cam: the small tab attached to the insert located at the hinge of the lid, which allows the Zippo to stay closed.
